Alpha Protect - Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a powerful antioxidant that is both fat and water soluble. It is a well known free radical scavenger that is commonly referred to as the universal antioxidant.

Alpha lipoic acid is a naturally occurring compound necessary for the conversion of glucose into ATP (chemical energy). In addition to its role in food metabolism and energy, LA supports the body’s natural defence against oxidative stress. A potent antioxidant in its own right, it also “recycles” other antioxidants such as vitamins E and C, Co-Q10 and glutathione, so they can continue to protect against free radical damage. LA has a unique ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, therefore helping normalise oxidative stress in the brain. LA has been approved in Germany for use by GPs in support of patients with diabetic neuropathy.
